A Yes to YoP

Happy Sunday everyone! I am very happy to say it's a yes for me to YoP!

I have decided to follow your advice and stick to a small list of small knitting projects! And I want to try socks this year! I got so excited making my list! Wanna see it? Here goes!

YOP 2014 ~ 2015 list:

There you have it! My small YoP List! :) I can't wait to start. I have not been crocheting for a few weeks now, so I have been very brave, don't you think? I'm also gonna see a doc for my wrist, I think that may be good..

Now I know, I have to take it easy with my painful crochety wrist, but I just can't wait to try out my DPN's. So if anyone has any recommendations for a fun small dpn project or a great beginner sock project, please let me know!

Gonna go and visit all you lovelies now! Wishing you all a wonderful week!

  1. Yay delighted your joining and I think you have the right idea with a small list, you can always add more onto it if need be. Love the range of projects also you've picked. I like Ann Budds socks to start with, I started with a simple easy pair of hers, they are on my projects page for last year.

  3. Monster Chunks are a little bitty things knitted in the round on DPNs. I'd start there. It's a bit fiddly with a small number of stitches but I'm sure you can do it. And starting with a brightly coloured DK or Worsted Weight yarn will make it easier. If you have wood or bamboo DPNs that might be easier too since wood needles are less slippery which makes it easier to keep the needles from sliding out of the work.

As for easy sock patterns, some people say it's good to start with a thicker boot sock. I don't know - I just went ahead and started with a plain ribbed sock. Once you done your first heel you'll be away to the races. I joined a beginners sock knitting group on Ravelry for support - and the mods and other group members were invaluable in getting me sorted.

  7. I CONCUR with Ruth on Ann Budd. I have her beginning socks book and it is THE BEST. I smiled at seeing those monster chunks because with your awesome, embroidery skillz, it could even be kawaii-like like your clouds. I've used that bracelet pattern, the last row, middle one. It's a great, easy pattern and it's fun to pick out buttons for them as well.

  9. LOVE your projects....is it wrong that I "faved" every single one of them? Ha! Ha! When I started my socks I used Very Pink's tutorial for socks (she's on Ravelry). I think it was $8 (US) and there were videos on You Tube to go with the instructions which really helped me although she is a FAST knitter but you can pause and go back. I still refer to her video's occasionally. I started with Magic Loop but I really prefer DPNs as I think they are actually easier once you relax and get in the rhythm of them. I always lay mine out on a table when I'm connecting that first round so it doesn't get twisted but after that you should be good to go. Be patient with yourself and I have started over so many times I should have about 16 pair but alas only 1! LOL! One shrunk, one I wear and the other needs a mate if I have enough yarn. But truly, all that tearing back and starting over taught me a lot and I truly feel I could knit about anything now...well.....maybe. LOL!
I'm so glad you joined and thanks for all the jewelry ideas as my daughter is a jewelry fiend and makes and sells her own but nothing knitted. Won't she be surprised this Christmas! Thank you and I can't wait to see all your projects come to fruition. Welcome aboard!

  10. Hi, and welcome, glad to have you on board.

Love your list - such a lot of fun patterns!

Re. a simple sock pattern, why don't you start with a very basic sock like this one:http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/how-i-make-my-socks

I made a pair of socks with that pattern recently and it's so straight-forward. Plus, despite how pretty all those lacy and cable socks look - the basic pattern makes the most comfortable socks. :)
